We’d been thinking about solar for a couple of years. After looking at rough costs online to see if it made financial sense, I was immediately bombarded with calls from different companies. Either the timing wasn’t right or I just didn’t get the right feel from who I spoke to.
Then social media did what it does and started filling my feed with solar ads. I ignored most of them, but one caught my eye: “Guess how much these solar panels are going to save this customer in its first year alone.”
I messaged NRG Solar and Rob called to see if he could pop round. I’ll be honest — I was hesitant. I’ve previously had a bad experience with a salesman (for something else) who wouldn’t leave without a signature. Rob reassured me that wasn’t their approach.
He came round, had a quick look outside, spent maybe half an hour inside reviewing our usage, answered all my questions (there were plenty), gave us a price and left. No pressure, no awkward hovering, no “what do we need to do to get this signed today?” Just straight facts and solid advice.
I already had a rough idea of ballpark costs from my own research, but Rob’s zero-pressure, honest approach made the decision easy. We didn’t even bother contacting anyone else.
There was a bit of a gap before we went ahead — new baby, Christmas, general life chaos — but the communication stayed open (mainly me messaging Rob, not the other way round).
Install day came and Dave (panels) and Chris (electrics) were both spot on. Polite, tidy and just got on with it. We had a couple of tweaks mid-install, particularly around cable routing, but Rob was available straight away to talk it through and make sure it was sorted. Everything was cleaned up and the scaffolding was gone the next day.
What’s really stood out though is the aftercare.
Rob mentioned they had a dedicated support guy — Alan (definitely their secret weapon). Since going live (3rd Feb), I’ve spoken to Rob or Alan pretty much every day. That might sound over the top, but getting the system optimised properly has been reassuring. If something looked slightly off, Alan was straight on it — even tweaking settings at 3am to make sure we’re running efficiently.

Genuinely the best aftercare I’ve had after making a purchase.

Even in February with poor weather, we’re already on track to be at around half our normal electricity spend, which is impressive this time of year, and we don’t have our export account set up yet……

Had a Tesla system fitted. No issues with installers or scaffolding etc. Had 1 battery not working through no fault of the installer. Rob ordered a new battery and kept me informed by email. Changed the faulty battery quickly. Can’t fault the quick progress and regular communication and didnt pay fully until system was commissioned and working.

I wanted to share an honest account of my experience as a customer of NRG Solar, because my installation wasn’t straightforward and the way the team handled it really mattered.
The sales stage with Rob was excellent — competitive pricing, thoughtful design discussions, and a very quick install lead time. My setup wasn’t simple either: I already had a 4 kW system from 2012 with a 3.68 kW inverter and FiT payments attached. The new project involved replacing and expanding the array to 8.37 kW, upgrading to a 6 kW inverter, adding three 9.4 kWh batteries, and keeping everything FiT‑compliant.
As with most installs, not everything went perfectly. The scaffolders arrived on the wrong day when I wasn’t home, but Rob jumped on it immediately and had it rearranged within two days. The roofers often arrived later than planned, which made my own scheduling tricky, but again Rob stayed on top of it throughout.
Craig, the electrician, was outstanding. His workmanship is extremely high quality, and he even redesigned the setup around my Zappi EV charger so the new batteries wouldn’t discharge into it.
Around 2.5 months later, we’re still working through some FiT complexities because the generation meter was counting battery charge and discharge. Rob and his team have been fully engaged with multiple suppliers (Infinity Innovations, Hanchu, etc.) to get this resolved. The back-office team is clearly learning the nuances of more complex systems, and although there were a few MCS certificate errors along the way, Rob consistently stepped in and got everything corrected.
As of today, everything has been sorted — including adding another 9.4 kWh battery so I’m ready for a future inverter upgrade to 10 or 12 kW when they’re released.
Overall, I’d describe NRG Solar and Rob as a small but highly competitive company that genuinely cares. Communication with Rob is seamless at any time of day, including weekends, and issues get resolved quickly. It’s clear he’s investing in training his team so they can handle more advanced designs without mistakes. They don’t shy away from complex challenges, and based on my experience, I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.

I originally contacted several solar companies, none came back with concrete proposals. Like a lot of people, i am a solar newbie.I was about to give up, then saw NRG on Facebook.
I spoke with Rob,( on a Saturday) explained what I wanted, as many solar panels that could be fitted, the correct inverter, and enough storage . Within a few days he came back with a proposal and price. Within a fortnight he delivered exactly what we had discussed. The scaffolders were polite and quick, both to put it up and take it down, the fitters likewise.
As a welcome bonus his expert on Solar, Alan turned out to be an absolute oracle, setting the system up remotely and as he said, always available to answer any questions. (5 stars)

I’ve just had a recent installation with NRG Solar, from the start Robs communication and expertise were excellent. We’ve had 22 panels fitted front, back and on a detached garage. I’ve had a 20kwh solax battery and 6kw solax IES inverter.
All the guys who came where very respectful and professional.

I really happy with the finished product it is generating and keeping me off grid better than expected.

Another point to note with NRG is their aftercare and monitoring. Rob employees Alan who is a battery specialist who will monitor and educate you on how best to use your system. He knows the ins and outs of the app gives you training and guidance on how to set everything up. My brother has had solar fitted with a well known energy firm and his experience has been much worse than mine.

Rob and the team at NRG solar did a fantastic Job with my solar experience, from start to finish they were great, I had numerous quotes off other companies and they gave me the best value and price I could find not to mention Robs knowledge of the solar industry put my mind at ease when he came to see me. I used NRG as they were local to me, Rob came out and explained everything in detail, we walked through the quote, options, mounting etc. DNO approval was submitted and chased in good time, install day was smooth and asked them to fix ridge tiles while scaffolding up. Sigenergy app was setup and working with ease. Rob then sorted export approval with DNO. Guys cleaned up after themselves and took all rubbish. Excellent service A1+

From the start Rob was expertly professional and took the time to explain the different options and how the system would work for our needs. We’ve had a fantastic experience with the whole NRG Solar team. Our system includes 5.1kW Aiko panels, a 6.1kW system size, 30kWh Sigenergy battery storage and a 6kW inverter. Since going live we’ve only used 1.21kWh from the grid, and we’re already ahead of predicted savings for April despite export not even being live yet.

The NRG team were fantastic throughout my solar installation, and I’m really pleased I chose them. From the outset, their approach was open, honest, and informative. They clearly explained the different options available, along with the expected benefits and payback periods, without any of the pushy sales tactics I experienced with other companies.

I ultimately chose to install more panels than my home strictly needed. Although that initially seemed counterintuitive, the team took the time to walk me through the calculations and reasoning, which made perfect sense once explained properly.

We needed a new roof so took the opportunity to put in-roof solar panels at the same time. It’s a much neater job than on-roof systems as the panels are nearly flush with the roof. We made savings combining the two projects into one.
NRG have been very professional during the project with great communication throughout. Where there were some minor issues ( as does happen on these projects) Rob was understanding and rectified without any fuss. Throughout the project Rob kept checking in with us to ensure we were happy with how the works were progressing.
We installed 15 Aiko panels along with a 20kW Sigenergy battery and inverter.
Overall a very professional re-roof project and now I’m transfixed with how much money I’m saving and earning every day feeding back to the grid!
